Age-Friendly Cities and Health Promotion
Against the backdrop of rapid population aging, the Center conducts research on the characteristics, behaviors, and needs of older adults, and promotes age-friendly urban planning centered on “ageing in place.”
Key features and focus areas of this research field include:

Age-friendly city planning and institutional development:
Introducing the WHO Age-Friendly Cities framework and supporting local governments in Taiwan to implement relevant policies. -
Barrier-free public space planning:
Developing age-friendly spatial planning guidelines commissioned by the Architecture and Building Research Institute. -
Interdisciplinary health assessment and spatial integration:
Integrating geriatrics, public health, and urban planning approaches. -
Research on older adults’ behaviors and daily activities:
Including walking behavior, community participation, and activity-space analysis. -
Comparative studies of aging cities in Asia:
Conducting international collaborative research and publications with partners in Japan, Hong Kong, and other regions.
This research field not only provides policy recommendations, but also lays an important foundation for improving the quality of life of older adults and creating health-promoting urban environments.
